So are chest freezers frost free?  First of all you need to know what does it mean by frost free. It means that the chest freezer will keep a cycle of partially defrosting and the after that it will freeze again.

So are chest freezers frost free?

There are some chest freezers models that indeed using an automatic defrost or frost free but it's very expensive and sold at around $400-$1500 you can try Kenmore or Summit brand, it's even more pricey than an upright freezer. But most of the chest freezers are actually using manual defrost that will take hours to complete, now if you want to buy a freezer that last for a long time then it's not advisable to buy a frost free freezer because as far as I know, a chest freezer without a frost feature will be able to keep your foods longer and also fresher.

But when the chest freezer is almost out of food then just take out the rest of the foods and put them on the floor and use a blanket or a sheet to cover it and then you need to defrost the freezer OR you could just use warm water and pour it into the chest freezer but make sure to turn the power off first and the mop it using a towel.

Nowadays a chest freezer also comes with a side plugs that you can use to attach a host and then drain the water to the outside and not using a traditional method like the old days that I just described above by using a towel.

Just a quick tips, be sure to make a note of all the foods or veggies you put inside the chest freezer because you don't want to keep them more than two months.
